WARREN — A rapping bank robber is in custody after an attempted heist just after noon Monday at Huntington Bank on Main Avenue SW, according to a police report.
A Trumbull County sheriff’s deputy was in the bank at the time collecting a deposit and detained the man before police arrived.
The man had lingered in the lobby for several minutes before approaching the counter to ask for a specific teller, according to a police report. When he was told that the teller was unavailable, he returned to the back of the line in the lobby.
A bank employee who asked not to be identified said the man started rapping and asked her to guess the song he was singing. He became annoyed when she was unable to identify what he was rapping, she said.
Eventually the man approached the teller again. She said he was giving her a “1,000-yard stare” then said to her, “This is no joke” and lifted his shirt to imply he was armed.
The man stepped back into the lobby again, this time placing a ski mask over his face. He then approached the tellers for a third time demanding $10,000 in cash while keeping his hand tucked in his sweatshirt pocket.
Tellers talked to keep him calm until the deputy took him into custody. Police were called and transported the man to Trumbull Regional Medical Center for observation, a police report states. Charges had not yet been filed Monday afternoon.
